Located in Rhinebeck, Topical BioMedics was founded in 1994 by Lou and his wife Aurora. Its mission is to build bridges between natural medicine and conventional healthcare and to remain the leader in transdermal pain relief and healing products for the musculoskeletal system: joints, tendons, bursa, ligaments, and muscles.
After coming back from Vietnam as a decorated US marine in 1967, Lou started experimenting with natural medicines, looking for ways to soothe the excruciating pain he was facing because of a severe form of carpal tunnel syndrome.
While doing research, he was shocked to find that opioid addiction caused by pain killers was, and still is, at epidemic levels in the US. Each year, over 13,500 infants are born in the US that are addicted to their mother’s pain killers. 84% of the world’s oxycontin (oftentimes referred to as “legal heroin“) is consumed in the US.
Determined to end physical suffering and reverse the devastation of opioid addiction, Lou and the team developed Topricin. A homeopathic product that has no known side effects. In collaboration with conventional healthcare providers and practitioners, Topricin debilitates disorders such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and lower back pain, as well as provides relief from sports- and work-related trauma injuries.
Topical BioMedics pays the majority of health insurance premiums for their workers and their families. 75% of their primary significant suppliers have implemented initiatives to reduce waste production and monitor relevant greenhouse gas, ozone depleting, toxic air and toxic water emissions. 5% of the company’s sales goes to the [name], a foundation linked to the Pediatric Cancer Institution, that provides funds for treatments, travel expenses.
In early 2014 Topical BioMedics certified as a Bcorp.
